Application of biostatistics under different fields ā¢ Health statistics : in public health or community health ā¢ Medical statistics : in medicine related to the study of injury, disease , defect , efficacy of drug ā¢ Vital statistics : in demography Eg :- vital events like birth , death , marriage etcā¦.
- 7. - Descriptive : deal with collection, calculation , processing and representation of data. - Inferential: make generalization or drawing conclusion on the basis of the studied sample.
- 8. Statistical terms Population : Any well defined group of individuals who are being studied or of observations of particular type. Or A group of study elements.
- 9. Sample ā¢ A group or portion of a population selected using suitable method. ā¢ Regarded as representative of the entire population.
- 10. UNIT ļ¶Smallest object or individual that can be investigated as the source of basic information.
- 11. DATA Data : Set of facts expressed in numerical form. Categories of data 1. Primary data: -Are those which are collected from unit or individuals directly. -These data have never being used for any purpose. - e.g: observation, questionnaire, record form, interviews, survey.
- 12. 2. Secondary data: -Data which had been collected by some individuals or agency. -Same data are used & analyzed to interact some other information. Eg: census, medical record, registry etc
- 13. SOURCE OF DATA ā¢ The main source for collection of medical statistics are : ļExperiments ļSurveys ļRecords
- 14. Constant ā¢ Quantity which does not vary from one member of a group to another or within a particular set of defined condition.
- 15. Variable Quantity or characteristics which can vary from one individual to another.
- 16. Types of variable 1- Quantitative variable: which can be measured on a scale. E.g: age, height,ā¦. 2- Qualitative variable: which is unmeasurable. Eg: sex, religion,ā¦.
